A winter road expedition into Spiti through the Shimla–Kinnaur approach, returning the same way. Expect severe cold, basic heated homestays where available, limited water and possible road closures. This is not the summer Manali circuit.

Your proposed itinerary
Day 1 · Arrive in Shimla; briefing, vehicle checks and overnight rest.
Day 2 · Drive to the Rampur / lower Kinnaur area; adjust to the mountain journey.
Day 3 · Continue to Kalpa if roads allow; a gentle afternoon and overnight rest.
Day 4 · Travel via Nako to Tabo, with regular breaks and no strenuous sightseeing.
Day 5 · Visit Tabo; continue to Kaza only if weather, access and health allow.
Day 6 · Rest in Kaza; optional gentle local walk after checking acclimatisation.
Day 7 · Optional Key Monastery / Kibber excursion with a local driver; return to Kaza.
Day 8 · Return towards lower Kinnaur; allow extra nights if delayed.
Day 9 · Return to Shimla. Keep at least two additional buffer days before onward travel.
High-altitude routes need acclimatisation and an experienced local guide. Trek opening dates, permits and weather can change. Itinerary and access are confirmed before departure; carry a buffer day and suitable insurance.
